Hi Tim and thanks. Actually, I have long had this problem with an older
laptop before I redid this high-end Dell machine, upgrading it to a solid
state drive and Win7. The reports I'm talking about can last anywhere from
a half an hour to some hours - evaluating close to a million records and
then recording the appropriate "scores" can take that long. Or days using
VirtualBox.

It doesn't happen with shorter reports or processes. I have to figure it
has something to do with the way DP manages memory but I don't know how to
allot a greater share of memory to the DOS window; I did increase buffer
sizes and number but that didn't have any impact that I can tell. OTOH, I
just reindexed the database: 904T voter records, 506T dwelling records,
670T mailing unit records, 57T NCOA records and then some ancillary panels
with limited numbers of records. Multiple indexes in each. Took maybe a
half an hour to reindex.

This is an issue that has plagued me but so far I have no idea how to
address it.

Once I establish the database it stays fairly stagnant for the rest of the
election cycle, perhaps a few thousand record postings against it but
mostly it's used to spit out target lists, mailing data and evaluate
neighborhoods for how we treat them. All of that is easily done through
VDos which I use on all our machines.

Good hearing from you. One of these days I ought to find Ralph again!
