Good morning Charlie, good to see you out and about. Yes, it would appear you need to upgrade. I feel your pain.
I have Win10 running on two 32-bit boxes under which DP runs wonderfully at the DOS prompt. My notebook, laptop and two other boxes in the office are 64-bit and when needed, use DP under VDOS. The 32-bit boxes are fast, they import data (which in my case are large datasets) and run reports quickly. Otherwise, they're just like what we'd expect. Running under VDOS or the couple of DOS emulators I've tried finds that DP runs very slowly; this impacts me for importing and running reports. VDOS runs better than any of them and works fine when I'm doing lookups, entering data by keyboard or running short reports. However, when doing any serious importing or report generation (or reindexing for that matter) the additional time it takes is a factor that can only be described as monumental. It's not a DP-specific issue, research I did online showed complaints about numerous DOS programs that run terribly slow under DOSBox or other emulators. The issue is so serious for me that I keep those two 32-bit boxes running deskside. I keep browsing the ads of reconditioned laptops looking for a laptop that I might add to my arsenal just in case I need to. The flip side of the coin is that as I sit here along the beach in Ft. Lauderdale escaping the cold and snow of Pittsburgh for a few weeks, my time needed DP is limited to a few more election cycles at which point I'll retire from both my businesses. The final demise of DP won't be its functionality, it will be the age of those of us who use it. I hope this helps you out and that all is well in NYC. Don P.S.
