Steve,

Here are a few thoughts (as I don't have your hardware I won't ever be able to 
try it out):

1) To access ATA and EMIF at the same time you need drivers that "sync" with 
each other. IN THEORY it is possible to run with DMA IF and ONLY IF while 
that DMA is occuring the EMIF drivers block OR if it is a write, they queue 
up the writes. Ditto with the ATA drivers.

2) Something that is not obvious (for folks who are rushing out to build the 
same setup), chatting with the ATA and the EMIF "simultaneously" will only be 
as fast as the fastest device - in this case, NAND. This is something to take 
into consideration.

I think this is very interesting and I can see a lot that can be done with it.
