Hi

Well, what I found is this

You can access the ATA and EMIF by switching the PINMIX0 register.

I do this within a new IOCTL in the VPFE driver that I added to access my
FPGA which lets me configure a progressive scan imager.

Normally, the IDE starts in a DMA based mode.

I had to do the following

1) using hdparam in the startup script of the linux, place the HDD in
NON-DMA mode with PIO mode 0
2) then in the driver, I used lock_kernel and the save/restore irqs to make
sure that nothing would interrupt me switching the PINMUX to access the EMIF

I put a new post on the forum earlier today that has my current code
snapshot as to how I did this.

My next tasks are

1) Get the compact flash AND hard drive working at the same time
2) Fix the MMC driver so it actually works
3) Fix the USB driver so it has the latest monta-vista updates
4) Somehow par-down the 600+meg of stuff on the default filesytem so it can
actually fit in a NAND flash memory - I think people have been working on
this. Can anyone chime in? A tar of a "NAND-READY" flash file system would
be wonderful.

I can make my company's FTP site available for large tars if we need.

Thanks

Subject: Re: Using ATA and EMIF at the same time

Hi Steve,

I believe you can clarify my below doubts

1. Are there issues with accessing ATA and EMIF at the same time ? Is NAND
flash over EMIF in Davinci ? Can't we access both NAND and IDE at the same
time ?

2. Can u-boot boot the kernel from IDE and not from flash ? If not, do you
forsee any issues if we want to add this support in u-boot ?

Thanks in advance
