Kim,

Yeah, I guess that would help boot time but if you need those features, you have
no other choice but to keep them in the kernel. Try changing the ACR register
for CS2 on boot up; it show increase your NOR flash performance and hence
your boot up time. I haven't play around with the ACR value, maybe someone
can tweak it even more to get ever better performance.

Andy

Subject: NOR flash file system on Davinci

Hello all,

I also have a question about the boot time.
The original booting of the default system configuration was more than
30 seconds. I was able to reduce it to less than 20 seconds by disabling
the following options:

General Setup -> Support for hot-pluggable devices
Device Drivers -> ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support
Device Drivers -> Graphics support
Device Drivers -> USB support
Device Drivers -> Multimedia devices
Device Drivers -> Sound
Device Drivers -> MMC/SD Card support

This time includes the tftp time, but it's still too long. How can it be
further reduced?

Thanks,
Kim Klaiman

NOR flash file system on Davinci

Andy,

I think I will have to think about this a little more, I really like the
idea of a updatable system, but I am really concerned with the painfully
long boot times I am observing! (I would like to reduce my 20 second
boot to around 3-5 seconds)

I (and I am sure everyone else here) would like to hear of your NOR
partitioning adventures.

Shame there is no real news regarding a wiki to store all this useful
stuff on :(

Regards,

Andrew
