Depends on your requirements in terms of footprint, graphics complexity, and licensing:

* DirectFB is powerful API for creating simple graphic interfaces. Using the layer modes you can take advantage of DaVinci framebuffer OSDs. It provides input device management, simple event handling, font rendering and supports several image formats. Small footprint and a good license for developing proprietary software.

* GTK is a powerful widget toolkit, for C, excellent support for internationalization, allow more complex interfaces at the price of a bigger footprint than DFB. It requires a tiny X server, or can run on top of DirectFB. Compiling it may not be a trivial task, but you can create more complex applications than DFB.

* QT is a powerful widget toolkit, requires C++, bigger footprint than DFB. It doesn't require X, and can run on top of the framebuffer driver. Check QT page for licensing terms.

Hope it helps.
