Lloyd,

The DM355 is targeted for MPEG-4 and so the price of the codec is
already accounted for within the price of the device. It can ONLY do
MPEG-4 (and JPEG) and that is the reason why we just bundle it. The
DM644x on the other hand is much more flexible and so we don't
pre-package any codecs. You have the choice of using any codec (or
combo of codecs) that you want.

Keep in mind that for all codecs for all devices that TI does not get
involved with the licensing of the patent IP. It is expected that the
customer license the IP from the appropriate venue such as MPEG LA.

You will "talk" to the codec through the Codec Engine. That will be
packaged in the software that comes with the EVM.

Hi,

I'm trying to get a handle on this as well, and perhaps I'm
over-interpreting
things a bit.

When you say "MPEG4 codec is included in the price of the DM355" does
this
include the software (aka drivers) to chat with this codec?

Or is this another line item with an additional cost?

And does this include or exclude any other MPEG licensing issues?

Not trying to get specifics in terms of price, just trying to get a
handle to
make some decisions.

Thanks!

Lloyd
