Carlos, The price of a programmable DSP-based MPEG-4 decoder on DM6441/3/6 or DM643x is $5k plus $0.64 per unit @ 10ku, so a little lower than you've listed below.
We will generally waive the up-front fee obligation if you want to use a second or third TI platform, so if you start on DM644x and migrate to DM643x for a cost-down or up to a next generation device for performance increases you don't have to pay an additional up-front license to get the updates. We also provide free version updates to licensees, and we typically put out new releases of the programmable codecs every 5 to 7 months, adding new features, performance, etc. The DM355 has a fixed function MPEG-4 and JPEG block, so we don't charge anything extra for the codec outside the price of the device. The software layer that drives that codec really just provides an API that is compatible with our other programmable codecs. Hopefully this explains the difference in business model for the codecs on the different platforms. There is something I don't understand yet. So, to decode MPEG4 we can choose : 1.- TMS320DM644x + MPEG4 codec (front fee $20,000 + $.67 per unit @ 10 KU) or 2.- TMS320DM355 + free MPEG4 codec ($0) How is that? Thanks, Carlos _______________________________________________ Davinci-linux-open-source mailing list [email protected] http://linux.davincidsp.com/mailman/listinfo/davinci-linux-open-source _______________________________________________ Davinci-linux-open-source mailing list [email protected] http://linux.davincidsp.com/mailman/listinfo/davinci-linux-open-source
