Swami,

That means you are not using the DMA for accessing disk, which may affect
the performance. so can you suggest some other alternative to get rid of
the issue.

Amaresh,

CRC error is calculated typically in the UDMA modes. Yes if you disable
DMA CRC errors will not come.

Swami,

I was going through some forum like linux, linuxgazette, etc; as per them I
should disable the DMA for this drive using following command:

#hdparm -d0 /dev/hd[a-d]

After disabling DMA for hda, I am able to create use the Hard Disk. so IDE
cable seems to be correct.

I don't have any idea about DaVinci ATA controller. so can share info on
DaVinci ATA Controller.

Amresh,

The error seem to indicate the IDE cable seems to be faulty or you are
operating DaVinci ATA controller in modes that it cannot support. Both
these reasons will typically lead to the CRC error situation.

Subject: Problem in HDD Disk Access

Hi,

We are trying to access the HDD Disk (40GB) connected to the DM6446
platform through IDE interface. We are following procedure:

Step 1. Boot the platform using NFS boot method
Step 2. Create partition using fdisk /dev/hda command from minicom

On performing step 2, following message appears on the terminal

hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
ide0: reset: success
hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
end_request: I/O error, dev hda, sector 0

Can someone help me to resolve the issue?

Regards,
Amaresh
