The montevista target tools are a loadable kernel module. You can easily
remove the module from loading on startup in the startup scripts in
/etc/rc.d/rc3.d

Subject: RE: Problem booting via NFS

The annoying 30 second delay is because the mvtld (MonteVista Linux
Trace Debugger ?) who tries to contact a remote debugger and has a badly
configured address. You should try to recompile the kernel without it
(quite likely something in the "make menuconfig" settings).

The usual output is something like:
Starting MontaVista target tools daemon: mvltdmvltd version 2.1
        MontaVista Software,Inc.
mvltd[1003]: can't send broadcast message: Network is
unreachable

Now it works. The evm creates /dev/console on their own.
The boot process hangs about 30 sec:

  VFS: Mounted root (nfs filesystem).
  Freeing init memory: 140K
Warning: unable to open an initial console.
### here it stops for 30 seconds ###
