Hi,
I have an MPEG4 streaming system which capture live video at 1280x720p
using a HD camera module. Then it streams it over to a PC running the
client app such as VLC or mplayer.

I believe I get a few hundred millisecond latency (about 200-300 ms). We
want to achieve a near analogue latency.

I am trying to estimate the latency of the encode process to get a feel
of what the minimum latency would be before the streaming layer.
According to the DM355 wiki

http://wiki.davincidsp.com/index.php?title=DM355_Codecs

The time taken for encoding a 720p stream with I+P (1+29) MPEG 4 stream
is 30 ms. Is it an average of 30ms/frame. Or 30ms for 30 frames !

In the same wiki, in the decode part they use the notation ms/frame but
in the encode part its not used.

I would also like to have an idea of what is theoretically possible with
such as system. Bandwidth is not a major concern. Only high quality and
low latency are the major criteria.

Thanks
Kumar
