I faced a scenario like this.
Finally it was as much as using ttys0 instead of ttyS0 (Upper case)..
However not sure...

What error does the startup routine show? Did you set an ip address for
your board? In case you're using a hub, try to set ip=dhcp in your
bootargs.

there's some other env which would set up
