Please keep the list in the loop.... Can you run with the NFS root filesystem as a test... /dev/dsp is not a 'folder' it is a device file. On the davinci it is a symlink pointing to the actual device file /dev/sound/dsp and gets created by udev when the board starts. Can you check that the audio driver is present, the output of /proc/devices should show character major device '14 sound'. The default kernel configuration builds the driver into the kernel so there is no module to load. If the above works, then you will need to modify the root filesysytem you are using to either run udev or create the device file manually at startup. As well as /dev/dsp there should be /dev/mixer - you will need to set the mixer as the driver defaults input to 'Line in' rather than 'Mic' and the gain needs setting for 'mic' to 100%. This does assume you want a microphone input - you can use a MIC + Preamp + line in if needed.
