I am no longer using the beta kernel. BUT - I just moved to a
different platform with a fresh filesystem/kernel and ran the script
that was published in the document that you referenced and I have a
calculated write speed of 3.9MBytes/sec ! Much better. That's not too
different than my laptop.
I think that the problem is that I used `cp` to move a large file from
an SD card to the USB. When I think about this it's not a fair test
because of all the data movement going on in the system. Streaming video
to a USB thumb drive (which is the intention) is not a copy operation.
