For your backup plan:
If you have the space for all of your storage too, yea you can flush the
whole server.
Otherwise, you would need to backup your database.
Save your DB logs (Definitely needed if your backup is online, sometimes
needed if EEE).
Save the outputs of db2set & set to a file, so you don't lose those
configurations. I would also save the db & dbm configs to be safe.
The database itself should not change until you run the "migrate database"
command.

Regarding the migration:
We migrated from 5.2 FP13(EE Win nt 4.0) to 7.1 EEE Win 2000...no problem.
Since DB2 keeps the database separate from the Software, it is easier. If
you are changing OS, migrate NT to 2000 first (yes 5.2 is compatible). I
would also get up to 5.2 fp13 first.

I talked about this in Sonia Ang's & my IDUG presentation last May.
The slides we used are on IBM's web (the CD is old..sorry):

Subject: DB2EUG: UDB Upgrade Backout Plan

Hi all,

I am new to the list and I am getting ready to upgrade one of our production
NT boxes to UDB/NT V7.1 over the next few weeks (currently at V5.0). I am
developing what the 'fallback' plan is, if for any reason I need to
backpedal to the previous version (V5.0). I would be interested in ideas
folks have on what they have done or plan to do for fallback.

My current thoughts are:

Prior to upgrading: Flush all transactions
                                Shutdown databases
                                Take Database backups
                                Shutdown DB2 services
Take NT Server backup to Tape

If backout needed : Recover server from tape
                                Start DB2 Services
                                Start Databases
                                Test Run Applications confirming fallback

Thanks -- rd
