DBD - Oracle installation failed

Hi friends,
I loaded DBI and DBD::Oracle on my Unix user account.But it says that I need a 
solaris patch to connect when I try to connect to the Oracle DB using perl 
script.
Do I need any other Oracle software module to be installed.
