Try BBEdit for Macintosh. It doesn't suck(tm)! and also has perl integration
hooks, forced CR and other neat stuff -- it's what I use for almost everything:

If you're on Windows try NoteTab Pro. No direct integration, but a wealth o'
features, and most are useful. It's my default editor on windows platforms:

Linux Gnome users might try gnotepad+ , it's old -- but it works. I used it
before I 'discovered' vi:

If your on *NIX Try your distro's vi. the advantage is that vi is ubiquitous.
