A new version (0.40) of SPOPS (Simple Perl Object Persistence with
Security) has been released.

What is it? From the gospels of the README:

SPOPS is a robust and powerful module that allows you to serialize
objects. It is unique in that it also allows you to apply security to
these objects using a fairly simple but powerful scheme of users and
groups. (You can, of course, turn off security if you want.)

It's also unique in that for most objects, you will not need to write
any code. It's true! A fairly simple configuration file is all you
need which you can then feed to SPOPS and have a class for your object
ready to go, right out of thin air.

Changes with this version include:

 * Easier initialization for one or many object classes at once

 * PostgreSQL support, as well as Sybase ASE/ASA and MS SQL
Server. (MySQL support continues as before.)

 * Lazy loading of objects now supported. You can specify a logical
group of properties and ask that only those be fetched. Other
properties will be fetched on demand. (Tip 'o the hat to Class::DBI
   and Michael Schwern for inspiration.)

Finally, I'll be at YAPC North America talking about OpenInteract on
Friday (June 15) morning, and SPOPS will surely be involved. Stop by!

Thanks!
