I wonder if anybody's had any experience of trying to connect to an oracle
database from a linux machine without X-windows (ie: unable to run the oracle
8 installer and hence without ProC).
Does anyone know of a way of achieving this without adding a CDRom, a
half decent monitor and a hard disk to the machine? Can I use ODBC for
instance?

The background is that I have a handful of ex-dos machines which used to
have access to a network directory where an extract from the database was
dumped overnight etc.. and I'd like to make it neater and contain up-to-date
information by linking directly to the database. However, if it forces an upgrade
of the machines, we'll be left with extract files instead.

Thanks
J
