True, Bart.  I thought about that though just gave that as another option, I
agree that was senseless:-)  Now looking through the trace file, looks like
everything is running fine, just nothing is returned?

In that case it would be very safe to assume that

        my $sth= $dbh->prepare($query);

would fail with a complaint from perl like:

        Can't call method "prepare" on an undefined value
