OK, there is a registry setting that determines which ORACLE_HOME it 
looks in for the tnsnames.ora to resolve the alias.  do you have the 
home selector installed?  it would be with the universal installer.  use 
that to switch between the homes.  also it's not a real good idea to 
have both homes listed in the path.  well, it's not on unix anyway, 
that's where i run my databases.
