That's not a fair test. sqlplus isn't involved as there's no parameter
binding going on. You could do the insert that way via DBD::Oracle
and it would have the same result.

sqlplus can do parameter binding so it would be interesting if you
could repeat the test that way. (I think sqlplus also supports a
simple textual substitution style of value that looks like parameter
binding but isn't, so make sure not to do it that way.)
