Hi Michael,

Unfortuantely when I did the client install I only put on the required
libraries to get DBI-Oracle working, so I haven't got SQL*Plus to test
with.
However I'm pretty sure that tnsnames.ora is OK, as a tnsping was working
OK before I started testing with DBI.

However, I've just tried doing a tnsping again, and got:

Attempting to contact (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=orasrv01)(PORT=1521))
TNS-12535: TNS:operation timed out

Running the same command a few seconds later I got:

Attempting to contact (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=orasrv01)(PORT=1521))
OK (100 msec)

Pinging the original v8 databases always works fine, which again makes me
think that the Oracle client may need upgrading... ?

Regards,

Rob

The Oracle 8 SQL*Net client should be able to talk to Oracle 9. It looks
like there is a problem in tnsnames.ora. Try cutting and pasting the
exact
connect information (instance, username, password) to login using the
SQL*Plus that is part of the Oracle 8 client to confirm.

Newer versions of DBI and DBD are almost always a good idea, but I don't
think they are your problem yet.
