It's the Perl you're trying to add DBI to. On Sol8 the default Perl is 5.5.3 and is built using Sun's cc compiler.

Best route is to get a gcc built perl (5.6.1) from www.sunfreeware.com and start over.

Don't get rid of Sun's perl - solaris uses it for own scripts
