You've got two choices :)

1) Create  a symlink in /tmp (man ln)
2) Supply the socket as an argument to the DBI->connect method, using:- 
DBI->connect("DBD:mysql:dbname;mysql_socket=/path/to/mysql.sock","user","pass");

perldoc DBD::mysql should give you all the answers you need.
