Generally that is not available or practical. Get your own perl but make sure you don't install it over the one that is there that is generally a bad thing.
Dunno if this is relavant but when I installed the Linux version of the Oracle 10gR2 client, it included Perl 5.8.3 with the DBI and DBD::Oracle modules alreday compiled and ready to go.
