Anything that you love equal to or more than God is an idol.
Also, any false idea of God that you harbor in your mind is an
idol.

Hello to all,

I need some answers concerning something. I had someone tell me that I was
putting different things as idols. When I did the research, I didn't find that
to be true. I recognize the my research is not exhostive though. I wrote down
some questions. it has made me depressed over the last few days. this whole
issue has caused upset. The thing is that I Love the Lord above anyone or
anything else. I've been told by this one person that I've put a celebrety in
front of god as an idol. Then this same person told me that I was putting my
stuffed animals before God as an idol and transfering my unborn childrens'
lives into them and living their lives vicariously through the stuffed animals.
I was shocked! I use the stuffed animals for several reasons. First, I bring
them to support group to let those who also bring their animals to places like
our group know that they are safe and won't get made fun of for doing this kind
of thing. who am I to tell someone to grow up when they are injured inside?

Second, I will sleep with a stuffie when Todd isn't available. and third, I
will cuddle a stuffed animal when I'm really upset rather than choosing to
cuddle a living animal as the stress I feel can definitely transfer to the
living animal and cause them problems. River, for example will have a loose
stewel after a stressful situation. Knowing this, I will do what I have to in
order to not put him through a lot of stress. this person said that I was
talking to a stufed animal like a real person. I have be racking my brain for
the last several days trying to figure out when I could have done such a thing.
Besides, I talk to things all the time. "No. Stay there! don't fall!" I'm
thinking that she thought I was talking to a stuffy when I could have actually
been talking to her and she didn't hear me properly. Otherwise I'm just
dumbfounded. she has made me feel guilt and shame insteady of conviction. this
has totally messed with my head. I know normal, sighted every day people who
sleep with stuffies and play with dolls. Part of me wants to ask, are they
worshiping them too? I know that's not nice, but making me feel like I'm a bad
person and so way far off the beaten path isn't okay either. I do grown up
adult about 90 to 95 percent of the day, but I'm not invencible grown up 1--
percent of the time. I don't like it that someone has the nerve to tell me that
I'm bad and wrong for being different.

I take putting idols before God very seriously and so please, I'd love your
input on this matter. I'm not trying to start an argument. After I paste this
and you feel it best, please feel free to email me off list. I'm not trying to
start a problem. I'm actually trying to get to the truth. I just know that I
Love the Lord more than anything or anyone else, including my husband.

so here is what I've found. If nothing else, please pray for me to take the
right steps to grow and to only be in god's will.

Hugs and blessings,

Sean

1. Ezekiel 14:4
Therefore speak to them and tell them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says:
When any Israelite sets up idols in his heart and puts a wicked stumbling block
before his face and then goes to a prophet, I the LORD will answer him myself
in keeping with his great idolatry.
Ezekiel 14:3-5 (in Context)

1. 1 Corinthians 10:14
[ Idol Feasts and the Lord's Supper ] Therefore, my dear friends, flee from
idolatry.
1 Corinthians 10:13-15

1. Colossians 3:5
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual
immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
Colossians 3:4-6

Idol

1. Exodus 20:4
"You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven
above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
Exodus 20:3-5

1. Exodus 32:4
He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a
calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, "These are your gods, O
Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt."
Exodus 32:3-5 (in Context)

Why would we want to worship an inatomate object instead of the real true
living one and only God? What can an inatimate object do for us that God cannot?

1. Exodus 34:17
"Do not make cast idols.

We know not to make cast idols and graven images and take inatimate objects as
our god or idol. How does this translate into turning a live human being into
an idol?

What might worshiping that human look like?

What is the difference between making an idol out of a human or inatimate
object and just being destracted by it?

1. Leviticus 19:4
" 'Do not turn to idols or make gods of cast metal for yourselves. I am the
LORD your God.
Leviticus 19:3-5

1. Leviticus 26:1
[ Reward for Obedience ] " 'Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred
stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down
before it. I am the LORD your God.

So, how important is it to not have idols before God?

1. Leviticus 26:30
I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars and pile your
dead bodies on the lifeless forms of your idols, and I will abhor you.

How do you think God feels when His people make idols and worship them instead
of Him.

Can a distraction be an idon? Why

An idol can be a distraction because it is taking the place of God.

At what point does a destraction become an idol? What are the signs of this
happening? How can we stop it before it starts in us? Are idols the same
across the board for us all? Why or why not?
