Sorry Mikhail, the patch I have prepared is quit big but not yet fully tested.

So just use cvs-head. The patch I'm working on is a splitup of _ic_fetch and some cosmetic cleanups elsewhere. If your idea works out, I'll take care of the merging.

I prefer well-tested patches as opposed to unfinished or untested code, of
course :)

I know how to code a much faster FETCH (about 5 to 8 times faster by

Merge with what? That patch was merged with cvs-head about a month
ago.

An important question: is the code in cvs head currently up-to-date
regarding your refactoring of _ic_fetch()?

I think I know how to code a much faster fetching with 2.0 code (I even
have guessed how to do it without is_header), but as I understand, this
would be of little value, given teh changes. I'd better patch against
the updated version - and so, do I need to wait for a merge?

I'd really prefer not to wait, because this change (if it produces the
desired results) will make dbmail somewhat usable for me, finally. I promise - no new statics this time :)
Yours, Mikhail Ramendik
