Hello,

My patches, which are now happily in CVS, have contained a "Modified by Mikhail Ramendik (MR)" part in the header of thei file. While they were disrtributed as patches, I felt this was the right thing to do.

Now I found some of these in cvs (2.0 branch - I didn't check out HEAD as yet). And while I would like to have some credit, I think it should not be more than for Paul and Aaron, who are not in the headers!

My proposal would be to create a CONTRIBUTORS file, and to put into the headers a simple notice: Copyright by IC&S and others (see CONTRIBUTORS).

It's all GPL anyway, so this is about credit, not legal rights.

Another related issue is that of signed comments. The comments in my patches are signed as MR, and I think it's the right way to do things. I would propose keeping mine signed and, when it's not too inconvenient, signing other comments too.

BTW, the CONTRIBUTORS file could also contain "officvial" 2-3-letter aliases for the developers, to be used in comments and in the changelog.

Yours, Mikhail Ramendik
