Grrrrr.  Evidently there was a period in the last 24 hours when the list 
server(s) were blocked by spamcop.net.

I said I'd report back on the time for the bytea conversion.  
dbmail_messageblks and associated toast files of approximately 14.2GB 
took right at 4.5 hours to complete.  This is running on a Quad PIII 550 
with 4GB RAM and UltraWide2 SCSI Raid 5 array.  The postgres server was 
running other requests at the time.  Load on the server did not increase 
significantly during the process.
