Storing messages in mime parts rather than 512k blocks is trivial. Making sure a single mime-part is stored only once is not.
Attachments should be the #1 priority, as that will provide the most bang for the buck - but, I imagine that once the method for doing this reliably for one mime-part is worked out, applying it to all mime-parts at that point would be trivial...
