Hi,
This is Wencan Luo, a third year Ph.D. student at the University of
Pittsburgh, working under the supervision of Diane Litman. I received B.S.
degree in CS at the University of Science & Technology Beijing in 2008
and M.S. degree at the Graduate University of the Chinese Academy of
Sciences majoring in Human Computer Interaction in 2011. My lifetime goal
is building a Chabot capable of using natural language like humans. In
leisure time, I like sports and travelling all around the world.
I'm really exciting to be accepted for the NLP QA project. The major
goal for this project is to develop a QA (question answering) engine for
DBpedia. A general QA system is one of the ultimate goals for NLP
researchers and it is extremely hard, however, it is possible nowadays
thanking to the availability of the large structured data in DBpedia. Our
fundamental idea to develop a QA engine is to convert a question in natural
language to structured SPARQL query. Of the challenges is how to understand
the question. We will address it by using templates. One strengths for a QA
engine with DBpedia is the support for multiple languages since DBpedia
supports 119 languages. In the final, the project will outcome a complete
QA engine for DBpedia that is able to answer a varieties of questions in
different languages.
