Francois Bozon raised a good point in the Wikimedia XML data dump list
today [1].
Basically, as the creation and management of Wikipedia inter-wiki links get
migrated from MediaWiki to Wikidata [2], wiki markups for interwiki links
are also gradually removed from articles because they can now be read
directly from the centralized Wikidata repository. Wikipedia EN, IT, HE,
and HU have already been migrated.
Although inter-wiki links originating from Wikidata are now visible in the
MySQL data dumps (i.e. *.sql.gz), they disappeared from the XML data dumps
and from the raw MediaWiki text itself.
That will be an issue for every system that consumes Wikipedia data
automatically, especially as more structured data (e.g. infobox) will move
from the MediaWiki repository to the Wikidata repository in the phase 2 of
the Wikidata project.
Unless something specific is done, DBpedia will have the same issue, right?
