Hi I am not sure if you are aware or not, but a UK based company have started a website (www.songkick.com) for commercial gain that is stripping out show details from other sites and making the data available via a larger database. My own site (www.chickenonaunicycle.com) has suffered much of the data being ripped off by these people without even asking to use it. I notice that they have also pulled a lot of the data from www.deadlists.com and added it to their site - and I am not sure if you are aware of this. >From my perspective: They are taking the creative work of others, and please note the significance of the word "creative", for use in a commercial venture of their own without asking for permission. Certainly in our case, this is not work that was simply undertaken over the "one year" that they have been in business but over many, many years. And somehow they feel it is OK just to take it and re-use it for their own gain?
Our brief efforts have already found numerous entries on their site attributed to others as the source, but it is actually our work that is being used. These are cases where we had given our consent for it to be used after the other party had asked for our permission and assured us, in writing, that it would not be used for commercial gain. We have also started to identify entries in their database that are correctly attributed to us but that they have somehow corrupted, thereby making our work appear inaccurate: As an example, a simple check of your entry for the following against our source will demonstrate the problem in this one case: <http://www.songkick.com/concerts/751527-country-joe-and-the-fish-at-jabberwock> http://www.songkick.com/concerts/751527-country-joe-and-the-fish-at-jabberwock It is difficult to see how they can be stopped from doing what they are doing, but I wanted to bring this to your attention.
