It was real, N. Paul!  I remember that too.  It was Space during the
7/14/90 show.  It was definitely freaking me out!  I remember being very
relieved when they finally got around to playing Miracle so we could
start dancing again.  Though the show was great, I'm not sure I would
want to relive the on-screen video of that part.  Would be hitting skip
on the old DVD player.

At one of the Grateful Deads shows at Foxboro MA, I recall seeing  a 
possibly live "performance" of a hand inside of a collapsing baby
doll head on the video screen during space.  It was an uncomfortably
weird 
moment.   I'm sure it was real!!!! ;-)
