IRAN----execution

Another public execution held in southern Iran


The wave of public executions in Iran continued Wednesday with the hanging
of a convicted murderer in the southern Iranian province of Fars, IRNA
news agency reported. The man, convicted for murder and armed robbery, was
hanged in the provincial capital Shiraz after the initial death sentence
was confirmed by the supreme court.

Since the beginning of the current year, more than 120 convicts have been
executed in Iran, many of them in public.

According to prevailing laws in Iran, drug-trafficking of quantities in
excess of 5 kilos are punishable by death.
