Please allow me to comment, here (yes, I'm reading -team.....more because I better appreciate the hard work this way and even though I never involved myself in DebConf orga). Marga contacted me a few days ago about this keynote proposal. She didn't give much details but I understood this as an attempt by the orga team to make the attendees' experience more complete...or to fill in the schedule..:-) I slightly hesitated because, this year I voluntarily refrained myself to propose a talk to avoid "the gazillionth talk by bubulle about i18n"...and also to be able, for once, to fully enjoy a conference without having to think about the bloody slides. I accepted mostly because (I think) I somewhat failed ashamed to not be able to give en i18n talk at DebianDay because I *have* to leave after the end of Debconf. And also because I I realized that there seems to be an expectation to have such general lecture (of course about i18n, would you guess?). However, if this idea of keynotes turns out to be something controversial inside the orga team, please don't hesitate changing your mind. I understand how sensitive the topic might be and I fully respect the work of the talks team for not minimizing the reaction expressed by Martin. I have seen the names of other potential keynote speakers and I feel that all of them entirely qualify to give a keynote lecture intended for the entire Debian audience. I think that a good agreement about what keynote lectures should be and how they should be "chosen" (and if there should be some!) is much much more important than our own ego or whatever it is. _______________________________________________ Debconf-team mailing list [email protected] http://lists.debconf.org/mailman/listinfo/debconf-team
