the old version might predate the keyboard driver rewrite to the input
device API. IIRC I opted for having the keyboard driver emit PC type
keycodes at that time, so old keymaps may no longer work.
I've never bothered to create a german style keymap for the new API,
feeling equally at home with US keyboard layout. Time to play with
current console tools, finally.
