This is just what GLIBC thinks it is; /proc/cpuinfo was indeed correct
for an XL.

Try doing, as root:

        ln -s Avanti /etc/alpha_systype

and see if that makes any difference. That should over-ride what GLIBC
thinks the system type is, and so long as its tables are still correct,
should return the correct things for the bus-base routines...
