Fast is relative. Besides, if nearly tripling the amount of RAM in my system can eliminate even a little of the paging I'm seeing during larger package builds, the build times will decrease by a non-trivial (if unquantifiable) amount. I *might* be able to get my hands on a few SN-MSP01-HF equivalents (2x256MB kits: PC66 ECC unregistered unbuffered) for as little as US$25 each. That doesn't strike me as unreasonable if the goal is to make the hardware I've got as useful as possible in the context of the time I'm putting in on the Debian Alpha port. Now, whether any of us should be spending any time on the Alpha port is another matter entirely. At least it keeps us off the streets :-). --Bob -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
