No, dont use rt2400 driver, it's for 11mbit version of chipset only. Use rt2500, you can get it from http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
You need configured kernel source. Then just copy makefile from driver source in under Module 2.6.x to Module and it works. You need to compile it with gcc-3.4 in order to work, and with current sources (1.0.0) you need to change rtmp.h a bit, lines 1086 and 1089 - remove words "inline". It then compiles, and works with amd64, but it's not the most stable driver. With this driver you can only use managed or ad-hoc mode.

I have also test a Sun V20Z (and V40Z) w/ PCI-X and it's also very stable and performant (running for more than a month without a glitch)
this systems support IPMI which is very handy to monitor the hardware parts (FRU, sensors...)
