I ran 7174-3 on i386 on 2.6.14 no problem. I think 7174-1 did not build, but it seems some patches were made. At least I didn't have problems building it. I hope the legacy package will get along with the new x.org packages. I have no idea why the old 7174 packages were considered not to be ok for x.org anymore.
