Yes this is what I did, with a rootdelay of 10 seconds. It didn't
boot :-(

Can you think of anything else that could be wrong? Do you think it
matters that my RAID 1 device is a degraded array, with it's only
active device being on /dev/sdb?
If you haven't resolved this problem, have a look at
http://lists.debian.org/debian-arm/2007/06/msg00045.html
It looks to me like you are having the same problem as the one
described in that thread.
