I've been running Wheezy on a Dreamplug since June. Once you get past the hump of the first installation it's just install and forget. The instructions on Martin Mychlmayr site (http://www.cyrius.com/debian/kirkwood/sheevaplug/install/) are quite good.

If you're worried about bricking, leave the internal MicroSD alone and use a SATA or USB drive.
