I haven't yet looked at mpe or lam6.3.3beta, but I take it from the
note from Jeff Squyres that I included that lam should work with
recent mpe as a *separate* library. Unlike romio and c++ bindings,
they don't intend to patch it into the tree. How this works, I do not
yet know.
