Hello,

I started to work on a new Debian Pure Blend project. I named the
project "Debian Marlin".

Goal: Debian Marlin shall be a Debian for end users to run
Debian on Desktop / Laptops. The system shall provide a set of
pre-installed applications for daily use. My idea is to provide a
set of documentation and tools to get familiarize with Debian
GNU/Linux.

 "Getting started with Debian GNU/Linux"

Debian Marlin Desktop use Xfce4 as desktop environment and
includes applications like evolution, libreoffice, a digital
photo organizer, ebook reader, chat application, audio- and
video-player, also tools like password manager, backup tool and
financial-accounting.

Under the hood, there should be all important lib / system tools
provided for daily use (e.g. gvfs-backends, cups-filters,
avahi,...).

The project is on salsa:

There is also a small wiki page:

 https://wiki.debian.org/DebianDesktopMarlin

The next steps will be to provide documentation and a
marlin-desktop-tweaks application (something like this

Hi Stefan,

Just my two cents, I think GNOME would be better suited for something like this because there are also GNOME Circle apps as well as an entire ecosystem of GTK4 apps out there for something like this and someone who's new to Linux and considering Debian would most likely pick GNOME as it's the default DE.

And secondly afaik you can only install blends via the Debian Installer (I haven't used the DebInstaller in ages, correct me if im wrong) not the live ISOs, which to say is not very straightforward for an absolute beginner because Calamares makes the installation so easy for beginners.

I'm not sure if there's a workaround to make a special installation image with Calamares for this blend but if there's a chance , it's gonna make the purpose of this blend more relevant as it will be easy to install and use.

Overall, I like this idea and I could chime in and help if I ever find some free time. Would be great if you open an irc channel or a matrix channel so that we can discuss more about it and invite others who might be interested.
