I have been able to perform an installation with an image built today
using an external FireWire CD-ROM drive without any problems.
Either the issue has been fixed in the meantime, or there is a kernel
regression between Etch and Lenny. In both cases, the issue does not
seem to lie in the debian-installer itself.
