Hi, After booting in "single" user mode I was able to reset the root password and create a new user so problem solved.
A couple of observations: 1. Bluetooth has been installed even though the laptop doesn't have any Bluetooth hardware 2. APM has been installed even though the laptop uses ACPI 3.
