this problem is also occurring on Dell Optiplex 780 machines, the PCI ID of the network card is 8086:10de. I tried installing using this netboot image: http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/dists/lenny/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/debian-installer/i386/ which has the date stamp '20090123lenny7' in boot-screens/f1.txt. It would be helpful to know whether the kernel team intends to address this issue, I understand that you are always quite busy.
