Comments/Problems:
* LVM installation is not usable AT ALL from d-i. i actually had to partition a
hard drive, later on the running system do the "find ./ -xdev|cpio -pm /mnt"
trick to "activate" the partitions.
normally, in i386 cfdisk there is a possibility to create an LVM-prepared
partition, no?
i have tried the following:
1. using menu to do the partition-setup (i missed the create physical volume =
pvcreate)
2. creating with pvcreate by hand the volume and the vg and THEN use that in
the menu-based installer. it actually mounted the partitions (i think) but
never put any data on.
3. (worked in the end) just forget about that and then do it by hand later.
* yaboot is not being installed and not even on the install-cd? - so how can
one make it all work then?
later, using the package by hand i found it had (compared to previous versions)
very good autodetectioni methods. so why is the package not used as-is in the
d-i?
* no good is that a different kernel is used on the installer-cd and is then
installed. result: i could not load modules, that i would have needed for the
ongoing download and final install of base-packages.
(/lib/modules...) did not match
* detect should really not be a base-package for ppc as it makes them stall as
soon as u install a 2.6 kernel. and who does not install a 2.6 kernel on ppc?
* help could be more elaborate on the cd. there are 600M free from the version
i used.
Install logs and other status info is available in /var/log/debian-installer/.
Once you have filled out this report, mail it to [email protected].
/bin/bash: line 1: /var/log/debian-installer/: No such file or directory
(meaning - i do not have that, sorry)
i think: as the ppc architecture especially for notebooks is so clear, there
should be a lot more specialized options for the differen types of hardware on
ppc. the partman does not work automatically at all. there is no
bootstrap-partition created.
i think even later in the installation there were packages missinig to create
that 800K bootstrap-partion so yaboot can use it. (probably hfstools were
missing?)

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful
The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.
In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.
You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.
If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.
Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
